Benjamin G. Porter, Jr. was one of the original founders and visionaries for the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail. He recruited the forces to insure that the trail was built in Downtown Macon and moving upstream to Amerson River Park. In 2008, this pavilion, that overlooks the Ocmulgee River, was a gift to the community by Ben Porter. Without his steadfast guidance and leadership, the Ocmulgee Heritage Tail and Porter Pavilion would not exist as it does today.
