The M design was inspired by the “I Love Macon” campaign in 2012 that a group of young community leaders created as a way to encourage people who live in Macon to focus on the positive aspects of the community. The 8 foot statue was created by Jamie Ragan, who was inspired by the “I Love Macon” campaign. With a Knight Neighborhood Challenge grant of $20,000 that she had won in April 2013, she started work on creating the sculpture. “I wanted to make something kind of representing we’re moving forward as a city.” The sculpture debut in August 2014.
A free public skatepark located in downtown Macon, Georgia. The first phase of the skate park opened in April 2017 and instantly became a hit with the skating community. The first competition there drew hundreds of skaters from around the country, and it is used on a daily basis by amateurs and professionals, alike. In 2019 Phase II was designed and built by California Skateparks, Inc., and they have worked with the local skating community to make sure it is created with their use in mind. It includes a competition size bowl.
