Wreath at the grave of Duane Allman at Rose Hill Cemetery in Macon, Georgia. Duane Allman (November 20, 1946 – October 29, 1971) was an American rock guitarist, session musician, and the founder and original leader of the Allman Brothers Band, for which he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995. Duane Allman's skills as a guitarist were complemented by personal qualities such as his intensity, drive and ability to draw the best out of others in making music. Fans still refer to Allman affectionately by his nickname "Skydog".
Rose Hill Cemetery has a statue of 12-year-old Martha Ellis, who died in 1836. Her gravestone is striking: a statue, simple but life-sized, looking contemplatively off into the distance.
